After the completion of his training, he worked for six years in England. There, he held the position of assistant architect with The Essex County Council and was architect-in-charge of a multi-million dollar civic center complex in Reading Berkshire with the office of Tom Hancock Architects. Mr. Ritchie moved to the United States in 1966, and after three years joined the firm of Philip Johnson and John Burgee Architects. Prior to joining the Johnson-Burgee office, Alan Ritchie was associated with the architectural firm of Harrison and Abramowitz, where he supervised the design and construction of a bank and office complex in Buffalo, New York. In 1969, he began working with architects Philip Johnson and John Burgee, in whose practice he held the position of Associate and Principal. During that time, he was responsible for such major projects as The American Telephone and Telegraph World Headquarters and Times Square Center, both in New York City. Other projects include a 1.6 million square foot office complex in London, England; The Niagara Falls Convention Center in Niagara Falls, New York; Century Center in South Bend, Indiana; and a 40-storey office tower at 190 South LaSalle Street, in the financial district of Chicago for the John Buck Company. In 1987, Mr. Ritchie left the Johnson/Burgee office and formed his own practice. After several years, Mr. Ritchie and Mr. Johnson joined forces, again and merged the two offices. As managing principal, Mr. Ritchie is actively involved in design and is responsible for the implementation of the firm's projects which encompass commercial, residential, institutional and interior work across the United States, Europe, and the Pacific Rim. Mr. Ritchie is a registered architect in Connecticut, Indiana, Massachusetts,
New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Great Britain. He has lectured
in New York and other major cities in the United States, England,
Japan and Italy. He has served on a number of design juries and panels.
He is also a member of several professional organizations and has

States and Japan. Mr. Ritchie is a consultant to the Building Stone
